Residual host interrupts via skipped connection unload
Published Oct 28, 2026 · Updated Oct 28, 2026
Improper VMBus teardown in Linux allows attackers to leave a Hyper-V connection active via driver exit or connection failure. The vmbus_connect() cleanup and vmbus_exit() paths set conn_state to DISCONNECTED before vmbus_disconnect(), causing vmbus_initiate_unload() to skip unloading the connection. Reachability requires a Linux Hyper-V guest entering either path; the documented consequence is continued host messages or interrupts, with no established attacker privilege requirement or specific crash outcome.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
