Kernel warning via disabled HDMI Packet RAM
Published Oct 28, 2026 · Updated Oct 28, 2026
A power-state ordering bug in Linux's VC4 HDMI driver allows local users to trigger a kernel warning during HDMI audio startup. The vc4_hdmi_write_infoframe() function attempts to store an audio infoframe while Packet RAM remains disabled because video restoration has not yet enabled it. Triggering requires applicable HDMI hardware and audio startup preceding video restoration during hotplug handling; the upstream fix documents a warning rather than a system crash.
