Storage-resume hang via recursive runtime power-management wait
Published Oct 28, 2026 · Updated Oct 28, 2026
Deadlock in Linux libsas allows attackers to hang host-adapter resume via SMP commands on an expander-attached SATA disk. In smp_execute_task_sg(), pm_runtime_get_sync() waits for host resume while sas_drain_work() in that resume waits for the same SMP operation. The path requires runtime resume and an expander-attached SATA disk; direct-attached SATA and SSP devices do not reach it, and public sources do not establish attacker privileges or an attacker-controlled trigger.
