Kernel crash via premature PHY attachment
Published Oct 28, 2026 · Updated Oct 28, 2026
NULL dereference in the Linux 7.2 hip04_eth driver allows attackers to cause a kernel crash during Ethernet device probing. hip04_mac_probe() calls of_phy_connect() before assigning netdev_ops, which the PHY attachment path dereferences through netdev_need_ops_lock(). The failure requires CONFIG_NET_SHAPER and probing of the affected device; an attacker-controlled trigger is not documented.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
