Kernel crash via premature PHY attachment
Published Oct 28, 2026 · Updated Oct 28, 2026
A NULL pointer dereference in Linux 7.2 ethoc probing allows attackers to cause a kernel crash during PHY attachment. ethoc_probe() calls ethoc_mdio_probe() before initializing netdev_ops, which the PHY attachment path dereferences. The condition requires CONFIG_NET_SHAPER and probing an ethoc device; the published description does not establish attacker control over that probe or a network-packet trigger.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
