Use-after-free via unlocked source-page dirtying
Published Oct 28, 2026 · Updated Oct 28, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux 7.2 KVM SEV-SNP allows local users to trigger freed-memory access during guest memory population. The sev_gmem_post_populate() function calls set_page_dirty() on a get_user_pages_fast() source page without locking against concurrent removal of its mapping. Reachability requires access to host KVM operations on SEV-SNP hardware; the upstream report identifies the race through code inspection, without demonstrating a crash or privilege escalation.
