Data injection via unchecked socket packet sources
Published Oct 28, 2026 · Updated Oct 28, 2026
Peer spoofing in Linux 4.8 virtio VSOCK allows local users to inject data into another user's socket via crafted source packets. The destination-only fallback in virtio_transport_recv_pkt() accepts an unrelated source's RESPONSE and subsequent RW packets without checking the stored peer. Reproduction required no capabilities across different UIDs and demonstrated attacker-chosen bytes reaching the victim; exposure requires the affected VSOCK path and a target socket.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
