Task hangs via missing bypass dispatch claims
Published Oct 28, 2026 · Updated Oct 28, 2026
A sched_ext flaw in Linux 7.1 allows attackers to hang tasks when sub-scheduler transitions overlap power-management suspend. The scx_bypass() function propagates bypass depth to descendant schedulers without updating their dispatch claims, leaving queued tasks without a consumer after resume. Triggering requires an active sched_ext sub-scheduler and overlapping bypass transitions; the documented outcomes are stalled tasks and kernel warnings, not code execution.
