Kernel panic via oversized inline-tag padding
Published Oct 26, 2026 · Updated Oct 26, 2026
A stack overflow in Linux dm-integrity allows local users with root privileges to panic the kernel via oversized inline integrity tags. The integrity_sector_checksum function zero-pads results to the configured tag size, exceeding the HASH_MAX_DIGESTSIZE stack buffers in dm_integrity_check and dm_integrity_inline_recheck. With CONFIG_STACKPROTECTOR, the first read causes a panic; upstream considers the issue non-security because triggering it requires root.
