JIT failure via read-only executable memory writes
Published Oct 26, 2026 · Updated Oct 26, 2026
BPF JIT failure in the Linux RISC-V kernel allows local users to trigger warnings by loading programs on affected configurations. In arch/riscv/kernel/patch.c, patch_map() returns read-only BPF executable memory without a writable alias when CONFIG_STRICT_MODULE_RWX=n, causing instruction copying to fail. MMU-enabled builds fall back to interpretation unless CONFIG_BPF_JIT_ALWAYS_ON=y, which also causes a demonstrated boot panic during PTP classifier initialization without user involvement.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
