Kernel warnings via unsynchronized vblank reads
Published Oct 26, 2026 · Updated Oct 26, 2026
A race in Linux's AMDGPU vblank callback triggers a kernel warning when display work reads hardware during GPU recovery. The amdgpu_get_vblank_counter_kms function reads display registers and scanout position without holding reset_domain->sem while reset holds it for writing. The reported warning and TAINT_WARN require lockdep and overlapping display work and reset; attacker control and broader security impact are undocumented.
