Machine panic via uninitialized CAN packet headers
Published Oct 23, 2026 · Updated Oct 23, 2026
Denial of service in Linux 7.0 allows local users to crash the machine by delivering CAN traffic to a SOCK_PACKET socket. The init_can_skb() function leaves header offsets uninitialized, causing packet_rcv_spkt() to calculate an overflowing push length from mac_header = 0xFFFF and trigger a kernel panic. The panic requires CAN receive traffic reaching a legacy SOCK_PACKET socket; creating that socket requires CAP_NET_RAW in the governing user namespace.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
