Buffer loss via incomplete receive-ring cleanup
Published Oct 23, 2026 · Updated Oct 23, 2026
A buffer leak in the Linux gve driver allows attackers to leave AF_XDP receive buffers unreclaimed when queues are stopped. The gve_rx_reset_ring_dqo function resets receive-ring state without releasing XSK buffers attached to allocated buffer states. Exposure requires the affected AF_XDP zero-copy receive path and queue teardown; the published evidence establishes lost buffers but does not identify an attacker-controlled trigger or demonstrate a crash.
