Kernel crash via invalid overlay cleanup
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Null dereference in Linux device-tree overlays allows attackers to crash the kernel when overlay ID allocation fails. In drivers/of/overlay.c, free_overlay_changeset() treats a negative allocation error as a registered ID and unlinks an uninitialized list. Triggering requires reaching overlay application and its allocation-failure path; upstream does not specify attacker privileges or a network entry point.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
