Kernel memory corruption via oversized playback packets
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Buffer overflow in Linux ALSA Line6 playback allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt kernel memory via a USB device. The submit_audio_out_urb() function copies or clears a playback length derived from incoming packets or the sample rate without checking the OUT-endpoint-sized buffer slice. Triggering requires a device handled by the Line6 driver with mismatched endpoint sizes; the report demonstrates an out-of-bounds write, not code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
