CVE-2026-98828Hinoki check available

Out-of-bounds read via short WMI responses

Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026

Out-of-bounds reading in Linux ath9k allows physically proximate attackers to trigger invalid kernel reads via a malicious USB device. The ath9k_wmi_rsp_callback() function strips the WMI header, then copies the expected response length without checking the remaining payload size. Exposure requires a device impersonating ath9k_htc; short replies cause reads beyond the payload and stale response bytes to be accepted as successful replies, without an established attacker-visible disclosure or crash.
