Resource retention via raced classifier error cleanup
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Linux traffic-control resource leakage allows local users to retain kernel objects through racing, failed filter-add requests. In net/sched/cls_api.c, tc_new_tfilter() skips empty-proto reclamation on the losing request's error path, leaving chain, block, and classifier-module references held. The documented flower case requires CAP_NET_ADMIN, including namespace-local access, and retains those resources until chain or block teardown; no crash or privilege escalation is established.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
