Disclosure and forgery via reset nonce counter
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Linux TIPC encryption reuses AES-GCM nonces, allowing attackers to read and forge inter-node traffic after peer key changes. In net/tipc/crypto.c, tipc_crypto_key_synch resets the peer counter consumed by tipc_ehdr_build even when the transmit key and salt remain unchanged. Exploitation requires encrypted traffic using distinct per-node transmit keys, a peer receive-key transition, and access to capture affected traffic; the disclosed consequences concern traffic confidentiality and authenticity.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
