Kernel crash via unchecked device-registration error pointer
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Linux MediaTek DRM error handling allows attackers to crash the kernel when ovl_adaptor platform-device registration fails. In mtk_drm_probe(), platform_device_register_data() returns an error pointer that is used as a device pointer without an IS_ERR() check. Exposure requires the affected MediaTek driver probe path; attacker control over the registration failure and required privileges are not documented.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
