Kernel crash via port teardown race
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux USB-serial allows attackers to trigger invalid kernel memory reads during multiport device disconnect. The usb_serial_disconnect handler frees port driver data before shared USB request completion handlers stop accessing it. Triggering requires an affected multiport driver and a teardown race; the reported consequence is a kernel crash, not demonstrated privilege escalation.
