Premature module unloading via uncounted completion callbacks
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
A race in Linux dummy-hcd allows attackers to trigger gadget teardown before request completion callbacks have finished. The synchronize_irq() emulation waits for callback_usage to reach zero, but request completion handlers are not counted, allowing unbinding and module unloading to overlap a running handler. Exposure requires dummy-hcd with outstanding completions during unbinding; attacker privileges and a resulting crash or code execution are not established.
