CVE-2026-98761Hinoki check available

Persistent VBUS sourcing via skipped error recovery

Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026

State-handling failure in Linux USB-C TCPM allows physically proximate attackers to leave VBUS powered through a false fast-role-swap signal. In tcpm_pd_event_handler(), a failed FAST_ROLE_SWAP start sets upcoming_state to INVALID_STATE instead of resetting the port. Exposure requires an FRS-capable port and erroneous cable signaling during disconnection; the documented consequence is continued power sourcing, not a demonstrated host crash or code execution.
