Kernel memory corruption via unchecked debugfs rate index
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Memory corruption in Linux mac80211 allows local users with root access to overwrite kernel memory via fixed_rate_idx. The debugfs attribute accepts unchecked integers that minstrel_ht_set_rate() uses to access rate-statistics arrays, causing out-of-bounds reads and writes. Access requires a root-only debugfs mount; the documented consequence is adjacent kernel memory corruption, not a privilege-boundary bypass.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
