Kernel warnings via duplicate event-disable reference release
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Reference-count underflow in Linux's kxcjk-1013 driver allows local users to trigger kernel warnings via repeated event-disable writes. The kxcjk1013_write_event_config() function releases a runtime power-management reference on duplicate disable requests without a matching acquisition. Reachability requires the affected driver and write access to its event-enable attribute; the documented consequence is a usage-count underflow warning, not a demonstrated crash or privilege escalation.
