Out-of-bounds read via unchecked USB packet lengths
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Out-of-bounds reads in the Linux CATC USB driver allow attackers to trigger invalid kernel reads via malformed USB transfers. The catc_rx_done() callback checks packet lengths against the entire transfer instead of the remaining bytes and accepts undersized packets, causing reads beyond the transfer buffer or from uninitialized packet tailroom. Reachability requires nonconforming USB device output; the published evidence does not establish attacker-visible disclosure or a kernel crash.
