Memory leak via raced resource-state update
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
A race in Linux 7.2 FireWire cdev allows local users to leak kernel memory by closing a descriptor during resource allocation. In drivers/firewire/core-cdev.c, iso_resource_auto_work overwrites a concurrent deallocation request with a reallocation state, preventing object cleanup. Access requires an available FireWire character device and permission to open it; the documented consequence is leaked kernel objects, not disclosure of their contents.
