CVE-2026-98509Hinoki check available

Memory leakage via uncanceled execbuffer fence events

Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026

Memory leakage in Linux's virtio GPU driver allows local users to consume kernel memory through failed execbuffer submissions. virtio_gpu_cleanup_submit() drops the output fence without canceling its pending DRM event after argument validation fails, permanently orphaning the allocation even after file closure. Triggering requires access to the virtio GPU DRM device and a selected ring with polling enabled; the documented consequence is persistent memory consumption, not a demonstrated crash or privilege escalation.
