Early boot hang via missing subordinate-bus checks
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
A null dereference in Linux PCI device-tree generation allows attackers to hang early boot via a bridge without a secondary bus. In drivers/pci/of_property.c, of_pci_prop_bus_range() and of_pci_prop_intr_map() access pdev->subordinate without checking whether bus allocation succeeded. The hang requires CONFIG_PCI_DYNAMIC_OF_NODES and a bridge lacking a subordinate bus; the published evidence establishes neither remote triggering nor an attacker privilege requirement.
