Uninitialized sequence handling via truncated LLCP frames

Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026

Uninitialized memory use in Linux NFC LLCP allows physically proximate attackers to affect sequence handling via truncated frames. In net/nfc/llcp_core.c, nfc_llcp_recv_hdlc() reads skb->data[2] before checking that a two-byte information, receive-ready, or receive-not-ready frame contains the sequence byte. Reachability requires an active NFC LLCP receive path; the byte becomes N(R)/N(S), but the published analysis establishes no additional peer control beyond valid frames and no disclosure, crash, or code execution.
