Resource leakage via unclosed handles after parsing failure
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Resource leakage in the Linux 6.7 SMB client allows remote attackers to leave server-side handles open via malformed CREATE responses. SMB2_open() increments num_remote_opens before smb2_parse_contexts() validates response contexts, then returns on rejection without closing the handle. Exposure requires a client connection to an attacker-controlled SMB server; the documented consequence is leaked handles and inflated open accounting, not a demonstrated crash.
