Handle leakage via incomplete compound-response cleanup
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Resource leakage in the Linux SMB client allows attackers to leave server file handles open via failed compound operations. compound_send_recv() releases an earlier successful CREATE response without invoking handle_cancelled_mid(), leaving its server handle untracked by the caller. The path requires an SMB connection and a later interrupted wait or response-synchronization failure; the documented consequence is an unclosed handle, not a demonstrated crash or code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
