Memory corruption via stale inode recovery pointer
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux XFS log recovery allows attackers to access released inode memory via an inode garbage-collection failure. The xlog_recover_iunlink_bucket function retains prev_ip after releasing it, leaks another inode on failure, and mishandles cursors to create self-linked unlinked-list entries. The stale-pointer path requires a flush failure during recovery; attacker control and consequences beyond invalid memory access are not established.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
