Connection teardown hang via uncanceled asynchronous requests
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
A teardown hang in Linux ksmbd before 7.2.7 allows attackers to prevent SMB connections from closing via pending asynchronous requests. In fs/smb/server/connection.c, ksmbd_conn_handler_loop waits for connection references to drain without first canceling active asynchronous work. Exposure requires an active ksmbd server and pending asynchronous work during connection closure; authentication requirements are unspecified, and the documented consequence is stalled teardown rather than a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
