Out-of-range timer writes via unchecked sysctl conversion
Published Oct 18, 2026 · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Missing range validation in Linux sysctl allows local users to write out-of-range timer settings through millisecond-valued controls. In kernel/time/jiffies.c, do_proc_int_conv_ms_jiffies_minmax disables range checking when calling proc_int_conv on supplied values. Access requires permission to write the affected sysctl entry; a crash, privilege escalation, or data disclosure is not established by the upstream patch.
