Hang via inverted RDMA memory-mapping lock order
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Deadlock in Linux 6.13 RDMA/uverbs allows local users to hang kernel operations during concurrent mapping and disassociation. The mmap and fork paths acquire mmap_lock before disassociation_lock, while uverbs_user_mmap_disassociate() acquires them in reverse order. Reachability requires RDMA mappings and overlapping device disassociation, such as during removal or reload; the disclosed consequence is blocked operations, not data disclosure or code execution.
