Kernel warnings via reparented memory-cgroup charges
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Accounting errors in Linux 6.15 memcg allow local users to trigger kernel warnings via zswap reclaim of reparented charges. In mm/memcontrol.c, obj_cgroup_charge_pages() charges the root memory cgroup after object-cgroup reparenting, while the corresponding uncharge path skips it, leaving an increasing page counter. The documented path requires enabled zswap and swap plus permission to manage cgroups and invoke root memory.reclaim; an upstream reproducer report also documents a kernel panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
