Kernel-memory overread via unchecked SMB response length
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Out-of-bounds reads in the Linux SMB client allow remote attackers to trigger reads of adjacent kernel memory via crafted server replies. In parse_posix_sids(), out_len sets sidsbuf_end without validation against the received iov_len, defeating the bounds checks in posix_info_sid_size(). The client must process a malicious server's POSIX SID response; the published evidence establishes an overread, not attacker-visible disclosure or code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
