Kernel warning via unchecked transport-header access
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Invalid header access in Linux Kernel 6.10's icmp_send tracepoint allows attackers to trigger a warning via packet processing. TP_fast_assign() calls udp_hdr(skb) before checking the packet protocol and assumes an initialized transport_header even on link-failure, forwarding, and AF_PACKET paths. The documented warning requires CONFIG_DEBUG_NET=y and execution of the tracepoint; the sources do not establish a service crash, data disclosure, or privilege escalation.
