Post-dump halt via missing IPL parameter block
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Linux Kernel s390 dump/re-IPL handling dereferences a missing IPL block, leaving the system halted after a stand-alone dump. In arch/s390/kernel/ipl.c, dump_reipl_run() reads reipl_block_actual->hdr.len without checking whether boot initialization left the pointer NULL. HMC FTP or QEMU direct kernel boot can omit the block; attacker control and required privileges are undocumented, and the post-dump halt also occurs with corrected handling.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
