Kernel assertion via power-profile reset race
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
A race in Linux amdgpu causes a kernel assertion when graphics idle work switches power profiles before GPU reset completes. The amdgpu_dpm_switch_power_profile function accesses registers without checking reset state while the GPU reset semaphore remains held. The documented gate is overlapping reset and idle work on an affected GPU; attacker control and a resulting crash or hang are not established.
