Kernel memory fault via unregistered netdev callback
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux RDMA core allows attackers to trigger a kernel memory error during an asynchronous Ethernet port query. The ib_get_eth_speed function invokes a netdev ethtool callback without checking whether the device is still registered, allowing a query to overlap device teardown. Exposure requires an RDMA port query during netdev unregistration; the reported result is a kernel memory-safety fault, not demonstrated code execution.
