CVE-2026-98348

Kernel out-of-bounds read via association-length underflow

Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in Linux libipw allows physically proximate attackers to trigger invalid kernel memory access via short Wi-Fi association responses. The libipw_handle_assoc_resp() path subtracts a 30-byte fixed prefix from an unchecked frame length, wraps the result, and passes a near-64-KiB length to libipw_parse_info_param(). The path requires an active ipw2100 or ipw2200 Wi-Fi client receiving the malformed response; the upstream test proves an over-read, not a hardware crash or disclosure.
