Interface teardown hang via IPoIB state restoration race
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
A race in the Linux kernel IPoIB driver hangs interface teardown on affected hosts when a multicast flush overlaps device shutdown. The light-flush path restores IPOIB_FLAG_OPER_UP after the down path clears it, leaving a carrier workqueue retrying while teardown waits for that workqueue under RTNL. The condition requires an IPoIB interface and overlapping flush and shutdown paths; the upstream patch does not identify a remotely triggerable input or an attacker privilege level.
