Uninitialized header read via short IP-like frame
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
An uninitialized header read in the Linux Wi-Fi classifier allows local users to trigger incorrect traffic classification by transmitting a short IP-like frame. In cfg80211_classify8021d(), the IPv4 and IPv6 branches read the differentiated-services field without first confirming that the frame contains a full IP header. The demonstrated path uses packet_sendmsg on a Wi-Fi interface; the published report establishes a KMSAN uninitialized-value finding, not data disclosure or code execution.
