CVE-2026-98340Public exploit

Kernel warning via premature hidden-BSS grouping

Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026

A cfg80211 BSS grouping flaw in Linux allows context-dependent attackers to trigger a kernel warning via Wi-Fi management frames. In __cfg80211_bss_update(), a probe response is grouped with an entry lacking beacon data; a later hidden-SSID beacon makes cfg80211_combine_bsses encounter the already grouped entries and hit WARN_ON_ONCE. The affected Wi-Fi scan path must process matching BSSID and channel traffic; the public report establishes a warning, not a persistent outage or code execution.
