Kernel warning via overlapping scan and ROC work
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
A race in Linux mac80211 allows local users with Wi-Fi control privileges to trigger a kernel warning during overlapping scans and ROC work. The __ieee80211_roc_work function starts queued remain-on-channel work without checking whether a scan began after that work was queued. The condition requires a mac80211-enabled host and a scan interleaved with pending ROC work; the public report confirms a warning, not a crash or data access.
