CVE-2026-98325

Missing TX failure notices via late metadata initialization

Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026

Linux mac80211 fails to report dropped Wi-Fi frames to local users when transmit-header construction fails. In ieee80211_build_hdr(), TX metadata in skb->cb is initialized after error paths that free a failed frame without the reporting performed by ieee80211_free_txskb(). The issue requires a transmit-header build or buffer-resize failure; the documented consequence is a missing userspace failure notification, not a demonstrated remote compromise.
