Immediate managed-neighbor probing via unchecked interval
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Improper interval validation in Linux kernel neighbor tables allows local users to force immediate managed-neighbor probes via netlink. The NDTPA_INTERVAL_PROBE_TIME_MS policy omits its validation type, and millisecond conversion truncates oversized values before they reach the probe scheduler. Changing this setting requires network-administration privileges; the reported consequence is a zero-delay probe interval for managed neighbor entries, not demonstrated remote access or a kernel crash.
