Kernel crash via unchecked USB packet length
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the Linux ALSA 6fire driver allows physically proximate attackers to crash a host via malformed USB audio packets. In usb6fire_pcm_in_urb_handler(), subtraction from a device-reported length below four bytes wraps, while larger packets can also make the calculated output exceed its allocated buffer. The driver must process 6fire audio traffic; the published crash trace demonstrates a kernel panic, not a separately established code-execution outcome.
