Kernel use-after-free via orphaned output polling
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux Kernel vc4 DRM driver allows local users with module-management privileges to trigger a stale device access after unbind. The vc4_kms_load() function starts connector output polling without matching cleanup, so delayed work dereferences a freed drm_device after the vc4 module is removed. The demonstrated trigger uses vc4 module loading and unloading on supported Raspberry Pi graphics hardware; the published evidence shows KASAN use-after-free reports, not a demonstrated privilege gain or remote path.
